Places to see in and around Dalyan
Dalyan in southern Turkey really does have something for everyone! Whether you want to relax, walk or explore, Dalyan has it all. Dalyan is a friendly town with plenty of shops, bars and mouth-watering seafood-restaurants line the riverbank. Traffic is not allowed into the town in the evenings making it especially safe for families with young children. Dalyan has one of the most unspoiled uncrowded golden sandy beaches in Turkey. Day trips to the Mud baths, Rock tombs and the Amphitheatre in the ancient city of Counos are a must. Life in Dalyan revolves around the River Calbis, Which gently flows past the town from Lake Köycegiz down to the sea. The Dalyan delta is an area of immense natural beauty and has become one of Turkey’s most treasured natural conservation areas. Dalyan is flanked by imposing mountains and pine-clad hills. The river is teaming with the wildlife, a naturalist’s paradise. Iztuzu beach offers 3 miles of golden sand and is home to the famous loggerhead (caretta caretta) turtles. Take a boat tip to the mud baths and wallow in the in the famous sulphur mud, this takes 10 years off your age, allegedly!) Or visit the ruins of the “City of Counos“which dates back 3000 years, or simply cruise along the Dalyan River and go back in time to when Humphrey Bogart and Kathryn Hepburn filmed the” African Queen” in Dalyan.
